“Star War” Fans have waited for years for a film that will continue the original saga and feature the original cast. Well, today is the day and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the film.
I just can’t say a whole lot about the plot because this is one film that shouldn’t be ruined for anyone. Here is my try at a spoiler free review.
The synopsis is close to the first films, the 1970s and 1980s films. There is a dark master, a supreme master (not sure that is actually his title, but he’s a big guy). There are, of course, tons of Storm Troopers. A lovely young woman who can kick ass, a young man who has decided to fight for good over evil. There is also an adorable new droid who has a situation much like R2D2 had in the original films.
SWTFA also features some old friends. It’s not spoiling anything to tell you that Hans and Chewy are present as are Leia, R2D2 and C3PO.
The ‘New Order’ is looking for certain ‘Resistance’ fighters. With all of the amazing technology, it isn’t hard to find someone you want. The long term fight comes when they both meet. It’s a lot of amazing dog fights in space, much like the first film.
While “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is a similar story to its predecessors, I don’t think anyone cares if the stories are similar. I can’t remember the last time I was in an audience that cheered for a single character appearing onscreen. There were cheers for wins in the sky and and when the film ended…a big round of applause. Also, people stayed and read the credits. I find that amazing. Usually only critics are interested in such things.
I actually think this film is going to be everyone’s favorite movie for the next month or so. It isn’t as good as the originals, in my opinion, but it is good. I didn’t find the excitement I felt in the first three films. The characters were fresh and it was like a new relationship. I like the several new characters that were introduced here, but the electricity isn’t there.
As I was leaving the theater, I ran into a group of people who turned out to be a family. It was the mother who had taken her son to see the first film and now she had taken that same son along with his children, her grandchildren. She was crying tears of joy that for the second time in her life she had introduced her family to a wonderful film, a franchise that she will always have to look back on. Her children will always remember her as they watch the films over and over.
J.J. Abrams has done an amazing job with George Lucas’s characters. Abrams’s reboot of the “Star Trek” franchise has now made his mark on the “Star Wars” universe. Abrams has so many hits under his belt, both on TV and films that he is probably the top man in the business right now. His TV shows include:
- Almost Human
His films include:
- Regarding Harry (also starring Harrison Ford)
- Cloverfield (Where is our sequel)?
- Star Trek
His upcoming projects are:
- Untitled Cloverfield Sequel (2018) yes!!!!
- 7 Minutes in Heaven
- Star Trek Beyond
- TV Mini Series Stephen King’s 11-22-63
There are several projects that are listed as a project with so and so. Many of these projects may never see the light of day, but thank goodness that the new “Star Wars” film did.
