Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe

Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe

Screen Shot 2015-12-21 at 1.11.07 AMEddie Redmayne who stars in “The Danish Girl,” won many awards last year for his work in “The Theory of Everything.” Eddie looks like a shoo-in for more awards this season.

Redmayne’s performance is nothing less than stellar as the effeminate Einar Wegener who wishes to be a woman. With the help of his wife Gerda Wegener, Einar becomes Lili.

This film is based on true people, but is not the true story. It is, however, true that Einar Wegener wanted to become a woman. As one of the earliest transgender person, Lili was a former artist married to another artist, Gerda Wegener and they seemed to be a lovely couple.

Synopsis (IMDbPRO)

A fictional love story inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.

Terra’s Opinion

This film is one of those period pieces that the studios tend to put out and then PR the heck out of them so that they have a good shot at winning awards.

Regardless, “The Danish Girl” is a good film. It’s an important film, especially for the LGBT community. This woman was a pioneer and even though the film is a complete work of fiction, it still throws light on the history of transgender people.

The acting from Redmayne, Vikander who plays Gerda and Amber Hurd as Ulla, Gerda’s best friend. There will be awards and more than they’ve received from film festivals and film organizations.
